Last updated July of 2015…
I’d like to introduce you to the wonderful family who God has blessed me with. For the sake of privacy, we are using their middle names as pseudonyms. This works out well for most, except for the two children whose middles names are Michael and Michelle… the first names of my husband and me. For now, we are solving that problem by using the pseudonyms Young Mike and Chelle for those two. It’s the best I can come up with, without using less dignified names (Mini-me, etc.) Suggestions are always welcome!
Michael and Michelle
My husband: Michael. I love this man. Proverbs 27:17 comes to mind when I want to find a way to describe him – “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” I am blessed to be married to a guy who is “sharp” and discerning but also gentle and loving enough to help me and others become sharpened as well. He is wise and patient, a natural leader both in the workplace and in the home. A man after God’s own heart, he loves the Lord, seeks His will in all his decisions, and takes seriously his responsibility to raise up our children to know the Lord too. God has blessed me with a husband who is easy to follow and trust.
Me: I’m Michelle, the blessed wife of my handsome hubby, and the blessed mommy to all these wonderful kids. I have the honor of caring for our home and family full time, and the privilege of homeschooling these awesome kids. I enjoy photography, blogging, writing, reading, having people visit our home, playing games, and just spending time with my family in my blessed home.
Ashlyn is a gentle, calm and quiet spirit, with a unique brainy sense of humor that catches you by surprise. She has a gift for writing, especially creative writing. She blogs with her sister Olivia and two friends at A Heart Devoted (a discipleship blog for teens) and also with Olivia at A Great Reader (a book review blog). She recently completed her first novel which we are looking into having published. Her interest in the written word also shows itself in her love of reading, especially any books related to history. She is a gifted musician who plays piano beautifully, is learning guitar, and teaches piano to three of her siblings.
Timothy is as even-keel as God makes men. This calm guy never seems to get angry or worked up about anything. He loves to serve our family and others in tangible ways. At first glance he seems shy, but as you get to know him, you realize he is a quiet soul, and his words are simply few. He enjoys physical work, keeping our lawn trimmed, and always dependable to help with home repairs or improvement projects. A “STEM” oriented guy, he excels at math, science, and computer technologies. His love of playing sports (especially baseball), reading (especially mysteries and history), and his awesome guitar skills (which he also teaches to Ashlyn) make him a well-rounded young man.
Olivia is a true picture of grace and sweetness, and possesses a unique love for people. Cheerful, creative and enthusiastic, she is the “idea-girl” who makes special things happen in our home. If we have freshly baked bread or cookies, it’s likely that Olivia made them. Readers’ Theater? That was her idea, which she planned and organized herself. Are the kids filming some new movie or skit? Probably Olivia’s idea. Her favorite hobbies are cooking, reading, and studying History (especially European history). Along with Ashlyn, she blogs at A Great Reader (book reviews) and A Heart Devoted (teen discipleship).
Young Mike has an aptly chosen middle name. He bears a striking resemblance to his dad, first of all in his looks. If you’d take a black and white photo of my husband, color his hair reddish-blonde and add freckles, you’d have Young Mike. He also shares his dad’s enthusiasm, love of life, and love of people. He whistles and sings, exudes joy, and takes a thoughtful interest in caring for others. He is an innovator, always working on a woodworking project, sharing his entrepreneurial ideas, or coming up with fun activities for the family. He loves engineering, Legos, making Stop Motion movies, and math.
Chelle is a lovely combination of quiet, cheerful and kind-hearted. She enjoys swimming, reading, and Legos. Having a flare for creative arts, she loves to film movies with her siblings, play piano, write stories, and design greeting cards. She has a unique fashion sense, regularly coming up with outfits that most of us would never consider, but somehow, it works. Warm and gentle, she loves to play with her little siblings.
William is our skinny boy with the appetite of two elephants. He is adventurous and expressive, with a contagious excitement for life. He has a caring heart and especially loves to find ways to bless his family, always surprising me by making my bed or bringing me a drink or snack. He loves to build with Legos, duel with Lightsabers, and is always up to trying something new.
Samuel is a little ray of sunshine most of the time, but he has his rainy days as well. He has a will stronger than any of our older children, but we daily see hints that his character is being shaped. No doubt about it, Samuel will grow into an influential man some day, and our goal is to train him to influence it for good and for God! :-) He is learning to read, and does his best to remember to practice his piano music every day. He loves playing with Army guys and water guns, especially with his little brother, Joseph.
Joseph is one of the most joyful children I’ve ever known. He smiles and laughs almost all day long, and comes with his own soundtrack, constantly singing whatever song most recently reached his little ears. :) He doesn’t always obey very well, but he is awfully cheerful about it, and we are slowly improving in that area of his life. He loves anything Western, and wears his cowboy boots and hat everywhere we go.
Faith is an adorable little princess. She is soft and delicate, but likes to have things her way. She loves music, and can often be heard belting out “A GOOOOO” (“Let it Go,” from Frozen) and Mercy Me’s “Flawless.” She loves to cuddle with her “blanko” (blanket) “go simmin” (swimming), and help “keen up mess.” Yes, she is a little neat freak and does not like messes or when a toy is “bakin” (broken). She likes to act like a horse that says “meow” and play with her Elsa and Anna dolls.
Updating soon, when our new baby girl makes her entry into the world!
